The hour of repurposing old occasionwear

You might have heard your grandmother (and mother too) saying they used to make dresses out of their old sarees or clothes. This can also be applied now when people wear the most embroidered dresses. Also, it obvious that not all the ladies repeat the designer sarees. Agree with it or not, it is the truth. Hence, the sarees can be simply repurposed. However, this was seen this pandemic time. Many of the celebs redesigned their old clothes this festive season. Riteish Deshmukh, take for example, designed 3 traditional kurtas for him and his sons out of his mom's old saree. This can be a perfect example of repurposing fashion. If you want to get some dresses designed, you can look upto Aditi Rao Hydari dresses as she has one of the best senses of occasionwear. You can also take some of my tips for redesigning:

• Saree to lehanga
This is the first thing which comes to a person's mind while talking about reusing an old designer saree. And of course, it is the best use and you can get your desired dress in this way. You can make the lehanga from the draping part of the saree and a duppatta from the free flowing part (heavier duppatta from the lehanga makes you attractive). Now you just have to get a blouse of any contrasting colour or you can wear the same all over if you want.

• Indo western dresses
If you have dual shaded designer sarees, it can be used to make an indo western dress. The heavier part if the saree can be used to get a side split kurta (it even can be a Cape top) and the other part can be made into a skirt. However, you might not get much flares in your skirt. If you want to make another kurta out of it, you can make it for your mom or sister and if it has the same design on both the parts of the saree, you can also do twinning.

• Designer shrug
If you have a designer duppatta from your mother's wardrobe (or your old designer wear) it can be used to make a knee length shrug for yourself. Trust me, an embroidered shrug can bring spark to your dress and can be worn over a plain black top and jeans. If the cloth you are taking is of net and heavy work on it, it is even more appealing. You can also make a sheer dress or a Cape top with a free flowing end.

• Sharara/Gharara
Another amazing use of designer wear can be Sharara and Gharara. But the fabric/saree you choose should have delicate designs of either embroidery or chikankari. You can easily get a short kurta and a pant full of flares out of the saree. If you need a duppatta also, you might have to get it form the market.

• Designer blouse
For ladies, blouse designs always change and is like a pressure to cope up with them. However, getting a very heavy blouse of common colours can resolve your problem at least 70%. What you need to do is to take the fully embroidered part of the saree (or any old occasionwear you are taking) and get it stitched into a blouse from any boutique. If you think the other parts of the saree will be a waste, get some kurtas stitched out of it or you can make a designer duppatta from it to be worn over a simple dress.

• Dresses
If it ever have plain georgette saree with abstract prints over it, you can use it to make a frock/ a one piece dress from it. (If you want to know what are abstract prints... ). You might not know but many of the dresses you wear are made of different types of georgette.

I hope these ideas helped you make something useful out of your designer clothes. If you liked this, please consider following my blog. KEEP READING and share your thoughts in the comment section :)
